A TEACHER AT COLEGIO CRISTIANO REFORMADO SAN PABLO
My name is Carolina Franco Tamarez. I am the first and second-grade teacher at Colegio Cristiano Reformada San Pablo. It has been only a year since I joined San Pablo. I was a teacher in another school in my area and left because I got frustrated with many of the kids in my class because they were very tough and did not like to comply with the discipline in the classroom. I really did not know how to make them collaborate or be interested in learning. Then, a position became available at San Pablo, to which I applied. To be honest, I did not expect the kids to better behave since it was just a different school in the same neighborhood.
We start every day with prayer, teachers support one another and have a good working relationship, I attend monthly training events that equip me for my work, the students really enjoy our chapel service that we hold every two weeks, and they participate very well in all the school activities.
After just a few weeks as a teacher at San Pablo, I realized things were quite different. Though we are working in the same neighborhood and with children with similar social realities, there are many aspects of this school that are not the same. I have come to understand that no matter how difficult things might be, Christ-centred education has a significant effect. This generation can be transformed if God is at the center of everything we do. I can say that working at San Pablo has changed my perspective. I love to teach, I love to work with children and I love my new school. I am so happy to be part of this group and I am very thankful to the Lord for bringing me to this place.
