John R. Walcott
John holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum, Instruction, and Teacher Education from Michigan State University and is a member of the faculty of the Education Department at Calvin College. Before coming to Calvin, John worked as a teacher and as a high school principal. He also lived in the Dominican Republic for five years where he served with Christian Reformed World Missions.
John lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan with his wife, Kathy Walcott. They have three children, a daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren.
Steve De Vries
Steve De Vries is a Pastor at Plymouth Heights Christian Reformed Church. He graduated from Calvin College and Calvin Seminary in the 1980s and, with his wife, Lori, went on to serve with Christian Reformed World Missions for 15 years, 13 of them in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. They returned to the US in 2002, and have been with Plymouth Heights since their return. Steve and Lori are parents of Marie, Sam and Charlie, and foster parents of Freddy and Jose.
Doug Walcott is a President of Premier Freight Management Corporation which is a West Michigan based Third Party Logistics and warehousing company employing 30 employees and several owner operators.Doug has been very involved in his church (Drenthe Christian Reformed) as an elder, Young adult Sunday School leader and past youth leader.He is also currently President of Right to Life of the Holland Area and a volunteer Firefighter/EMT.He has organized and lead several trips to COCREF with teams from his church.Lives in Zeeland, Michigan with his wife Sandy. He has three married children along with grand children.
Mario Luis Matos
Mario was born and lives in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic with his wife Yolanda, and their two daughters Susana and Magdalena. He has served as evangelist, church planter, and Community Development worker since 1990 and is the founding director of CTM Dominican Republic. He also has been serving as the executive director of COCREF – Christian Reformed Schools. He earned a B.A in Business Administration at Universidad Central del Este in Santo Domingo, and an M.A in Theology and Education at Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, MI. Mario is also ordained with the Christian Reformed Church in the Dominican Republic.
Amie Spriensma earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Grand Valley State University in 1999; she earned her Master of Arts in Inter-cultural Studies in 2001 and a Master's in Biblical Counseling in 2007. She loves the Lord and is passionate about seeing children grow up to know and serve Him. She has worked in donor relations with Hope Rising since 2013 and enjoys meeting people of all ages and stages of life. When she visited the Dominican Republic a few years ago, she was touched by the testimonies of people around her who were committed to long-term service in challenging situations. Together with her Dominican friends and partners, she desires to see lives and communities transformed to the glory of God.
